Day by day
Day 1 — Arrival in Leh & Acclimatization Route: Leh Airport → Leh Hotel
Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, met by your group coordinator and transferred to the hotel. Leh sits at 3,500 meters - the first day is non-negotiable rest. No sightseeing, no walking tours, no “just a quick stroll.” Drink water, sleep, let your body adjust. In the late afternoon, if you feel well, a gentle walk to Shanti Stupa offers your first sunset over the Ladakh range . The evening includes a group briefing on the stargazing sessions ahead and a traditional Ladakhi welcome dinner.

Day 2 — Leh Local Sightseeing & Evening Stargazing at Phyang Cosmohub Route: Leh → Sham Valley circuit → Phyang Village → Leh
A gentle day of Leh’s essential sights - Leh Palace, Hall of Fame Museum, and the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers at Sangam . These are easy, low-effort stops suitable for your second day at altitude. In the evening, drive 30 minutes to Phyang Village for a community-led stargazing session at Cosmohub, a women-run astro-tourism initiative . The experience begins with a short audio-visual session and a walk through a small Astro Museum, where local women share folklore and traditional Tibetan beliefs about the cosmos . Then, step outside for a laser-guided night sky session - constellations, planets, and the Milky Way explained by trained local guides. The experience includes complimentary tea and a farm-to-table dinner prepared with local ingredients . Drop back to Leh by 10:30–11:00 PM.

Day 3 — Leh to Hanle: Journey to the Dark Sky Reserve Route: Leh → Changthang Plateau → Hanle (approx. 260 km, 6–7 hours)
Today heads deep into the Changthang Plateau, leaving mainstream Ladakh behind. The drive passes through Mahe, Nyoma, and Loma - remote villages and nomadic settlements rarely seen on standard tourist routes . Arrive in Hanle by late afternoon, a village near the Tibet border at 4,500 meters. Hanle is India’s first Dark Sky Reserve, home to the Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO) perched atop Mt. Saraswati . The village has been developed as an astro-tourism hub, with local residents trained as “astro-ambassadors” guiding visitors through the night sky . After settling into a homestay, the evening brings the first stargazing session in one of the darkest locations on Earth - the Milky Way visible with the naked eye, distant galaxies and nebulae through telescopes .

Day 4 — Hanle Observatory & Cultural Exploration Route: Hanle (local)
A full day in Hanle, with the flexibility to rest and explore at altitude. Visit the historic Hanle Monastery, a 17th-century Buddhist sanctuary with panoramic views over the village and surrounding valley . Learn about the Indian Astronomical Observatory, one of the world’s highest observatories, and its role in India’s dark sky preservation efforts . In the afternoon, walk through the village - interact with local families, sample Ladakhi cuisine, and understand life at 4,500 meters on the Tibet border. As darkness falls, a second stargazing session offers the chance to observe different celestial objects, meteor showers, or planetary conjunctions depending on the season . The silence and darkness here are complete.

Day 5 — Hanle to Pangong via Chushul Route: Hanle → Chushul → Pangong Lake (approx. 180 km, 5–6 hours)
Depart Hanle and drive towards Pangong Lake via Chushul, passing the Rezang La War Memorial and Loma Bridge . This route through the Changthang plateau is far less traveled than the standard Leh-Pangong road. Arrive at Pangong by late afternoon - the lake’s changing colors in the fading light are the first visual reward. Tonight’s stargazing is different from Hanle: Pangong’s still waters mirror the sky, creating a doubled cosmos of stars above and below . The lake’s remote location and minimal light pollution make it one of India’s best stargazing spots . Stay at a lakeside camp or guesthouse in Pangong or nearby Merak.

Day 6 — Pangong to Leh & Departure Route: Pangong → Chang La → Leh → Leh Airport (approx. 225 km, 5–6 hours)
Early morning by Pangong before the day-trippers arrive - the lake at dawn is a different experience entirely. Depart for Leh via Chang La Pass (5,360 m), one of the world’s highest motorable roads . Stop at Thiksey Monastery en route if time permits, a 12-story complex resembling Tibet’s Potala Palace . Arrive in Leh by afternoon. Depending on your flight time, transfer to Leh Airport for departure - or if you have an evening flight, a final walk through Leh Main Bazaar. The tour ends with the night skies still in your memory.

Best Time to Travel:
May to September is the window when Hanle and Pangong routes are reliably open and night skies are clearest. June to August offers the warmest nights for stargazing, though monsoon clouds can occasionally drift into Ladakh from the south. September brings crisper, darker skies and fewer crowds. Winter (October-April) closes the Hanle route and makes this itinerary impractical.
Suitable For:
Travelers fascinated by astronomy, astrophotography, and dark sky experiences. Comfortable with long driving days (6-7 hours on Day 3), basic homestay accommodation in Hanle, and high altitude (up to 5,360 m at Chang La). Not suitable for travelers with serious heart or respiratory conditions, or those who cannot manage rough roads and limited facilities.
Travel Pace:
Moderate to challenging. This is a road-trip style group tour with stargazing sessions in the evenings. Days 3 and 5 involve long drives on mountain roads. Day 1 acclimatization is non-negotiable - this itinerary does not cut corners on rest at the start.
Accommodation:
Hotels in Leh, homestays in Hanle, and camps/guesthouses at Pangong. Accommodation in Hanle and Pangong is basic - clean beds, hot water when available, and simple meals. Hanle homestays are family-run and offer authentic Ladakhi hospitality .
Transport:
Non-AC tempo traveller or similar group vehicle. The vehicle carries the group and luggage. Roads in Ladakh are rough and winding - motion sickness medication is recommended.
Meals:
Breakfast and dinner included. The Cosmohub experience on Day 2 includes a farm-to-table dinner . Lunch is not included - the group will stop at roadside dhabas or villages for lunch (own cost). Vegetarian options are widely available. Carry snacks and water for long drives.
Important Notes:
Acclimatization is critical. Day 1 is deliberately restful. Do not skip this.
Carry Diamox or consult your doctor about altitude medication before arrival.
Hanle and Pangong are remote - fuel and cash are limited. Carry sufficient cash; digital payments may not work.
Oxygen cylinders are carried in the vehicle for emergencies.
Mobile connectivity is patchy outside Leh - Jio works in Leh town but fades on highways. Hanle has limited or no connectivity.
Stargazing sessions are subject to weather conditions. If clouds obstruct the view, sessions may be adjusted or cancelled without refund.
This is a group tour. Timelines are coordinated but flexibility is needed on mountain roads.
Seasonal Considerations:
June: Good weather, roads open, moderate crowds. Longest days for stargazing.
July-August: Peak season. Warm days, busy routes, but all passes open. Occasional monsoon clouds may affect night skies.
September: Best month. Clear skies, golden light, fewer crowds, but nights get cold (down to -5°C at altitude).
October onwards: High passes begin closing. Hanle route may become inaccessible.
Customization:
This is a group package with fixed departures. Private versions can be arranged.
Hanle homestay can be upgraded where options exist.
Adding a day in Leh for rest or local sightseeing is recommended if arriving from low altitude.
Astrophotography services can be arranged at Cosmohub on request (additional cost) .
Cancellation & refund policy
Cancellation, Amendment & Refund Policy
1. Booking Confirmation & Advance Payment
A booking shall be considered confirmed only upon receipt of the required advance payment. The company reserves the right to release unconfirmed bookings without prior notice. All payments made towards booking confirmation are subject to the cancellation terms mentioned below.
2. Cancellation Policy
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email or official communication channels. Cancellation charges will be calculated based on the total package cost and the date on which the written cancellation request is received by the company.

3. Non-Refundable Components
The following components shall be strictly non-refundable once confirmed:
- Flight/train tickets (if applicable)
- Visa fees
- Permit charges
- Peak season hotel bookings
- Houseboat bookings during high season
- Adventure/activity tickets
- Any special event or festive season supplement
- Service fees, processing fees, and convenience charges
The company reserves the right to deduct supplier-imposed cancellation charges in addition to the above retention charges wherever applicable.
4. Amendment / Rescheduling Policy
Any amendment, modification, postponement, or rescheduling request must be submitted in writing and shall be subject to availability and supplier approval. The company does not guarantee acceptance of amendment requests after booking confirmation. Any fare difference, seasonal surcharge, hotel rate revision, transport cost escalation, or supplier-imposed amendment fee shall be payable additionally by the client/agent. Amendments requested within 30 days of arrival may be treated as a cancellation and rebooking at the sole discretion of the company.
5. No Show Policy
Failure of the guest/client to arrive, utilize booked services, or join the tour on the scheduled date without prior written intimation shall be treated as a “No Show”.
In such cases:
- 100% of the total booking amount shall be forfeited
- No refund, amendment, or credit note shall be applicable
- Unused services, early departures, or missed sightseeing tours shall not qualify for any refund.
6. Force Majeure / Unforeseen Circumstances
Poise Travel and Tourism shall not be held liable for any cancellation, delay, alteration, loss, or additional expense arising due to circumstances beyond the company’s control, including but not limited to:
- Natural disasters
- Floods, snowfall, landslides, road blockages
- Political unrest, strikes, curfews
- Flight cancellations or operational disruptions
- Pandemic-related restrictions
- Government orders or travel advisories
Under such circumstances:
- Refunds, if any, shall strictly depend upon recoveries received from hotels, transporters, and other suppliers.
- Administrative, processing, and operational charges shall remain non-refundable.
- The company reserves the absolute right to alter itineraries in the interest of guest safety and operational feasibility.
7. Refund Policy
Eligible refunds, if any, shall be processed within 30–45 working days from the date of cancellation confirmation. Refund timelines are subject to receipt of funds from respective suppliers/vendors. Refunds shall be processed only through the original payment mode unless otherwise agreed in writing. Bank charges, payment gateway fees, foreign exchange fluctuations, and transaction charges shall be deducted from the refundable amount.
8. Pricing & Supplier Protection Clause
All package rates are dynamic and subject to availability at the time of confirmation. In case of sudden supplier tariff revisions, fuel hikes, government taxes, or hotel policy changes, the company reserves the right to revise package pricing prior to final confirmation. Confirmed bookings shall remain protected unless impacted by force majeure or supplier default.
9. Jurisdiction
Any dispute arising in relation to bookings, payments, or services shall be subject to the jurisdiction of courts located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir only.
10. Hotel Damage & Liability Clause
Any loss, damage, breakage, theft, or misuse of hotel/houseboat property caused by guests shall be the sole responsibility of the guest and/or the booking agent. Charges imposed by the hotel/houseboat management for damages, excessive cleaning, missing items, or misconduct must be settled directly by the guest or agent before check-out. Poise Travel and Tourism shall not be held liable for disputes arising between guests and hotel management regarding damages or conduct. The company reserves the right to recover any unpaid damage charges from the booking agent in case the guest departs without settlement.
11. Guest Conduct Policy
Guests are expected to maintain respectful and lawful behavior throughout the tour. Any misconduct including but not limited to:
- Abuse towards staff/drivers/hotel employees
- Illegal activities
- Consumption of prohibited substances
- Damage to public or private property
- Disturbance to other guests
May result in immediate termination of services without any refund. Any fines, penalties, legal consequences, or damages arising due to guest behavior shall be borne entirely by the guest and/or (b2b) booking agent. The company reserves the right to deny services to intoxicated, abusive, or disruptive guests if deemed necessary for operational safety.
12. Payment Default Clause
All payments must be cleared within the agreed timeline prior to guest arrival unless otherwise approved in writing. Failure to clear pending dues may result in:
- Release of hotel bookings
- Suspension of services
- Denial of check-in/check-out assistance
- Cancellation of transport arrangements without further liability on the company.
In case of delayed payments:
- The company reserves the right to levy interest/late payment charges.
- Any supplier penalties arising due to delayed payment shall be recoverable from the booking agent/client.
- Vouchers and confirmations issued prior to full payment shall remain provisional until payment realization.
13. Peak Season / Blackout Cancellation Policy
The following periods shall be treated as Peak Season / Blackout Dates:
- Christmas & New Year
- Eid Holidays
- Long weekends
- National holidays
- Heavy snowfall periods
- Festival dates
- Any dates specifically notified by the company
During these periods:
- Hotel bookings, transport services, and houseboats may carry stricter cancellation terms imposed by suppliers.
- Certain bookings may become completely non-refundable immediately after confirmation.
- Advance payments during blackout periods may be non-transferable and non-adjustable.
- The company reserves the right to apply special cancellation policies for peak dates irrespective of the standard cancellation policy mentioned above.
14. Kashmir Weather / Snowfall Disclaimer
Kashmir is a weather-sensitive destination and operations may be affected due to:
- Snowfall
- Landslides
- Road closures
- Avalanches
- Traffic restrictions
- Flight disruptions
- Government-imposed movement restrictions
Poise Travel and Tourism shall not be responsible for:
- Non-availability of sightseeing
- Gondola closure
- Missed flights/trains
- Route diversions
- Hotel changes caused by weather conditions
- Delay or cancellation of activities due to snowfall or road blockage
Additional expenses arising due to:
- Extra hotel nights
- Alternative transport
- Route changes
- Vehicle chain charges during snow
- Flight rescheduling
Shall be borne directly by the guest/client. No refund shall be applicable for unused services caused due to weather conditions or government restrictions beyond operational control.
15. Supplier Substitution Clause
In case any confirmed hotel, houseboat, or transport provider becomes unavailable due to operational reasons, overbooking, weather conditions, maintenance, or force majeure, the company reserves the right to provide a similar category alternative without prior liability. Every effort shall be made to maintain service standards and comfort levels.
16. B2B Confidentiality Clause
All contracted rates, quotations, and pricing shared with agents/partners are strictly confidential and intended solely for B2B business use. Redistribution of net rates directly to suppliers, competitors, or unauthorized third parties is strictly prohibited. The company reserves the right to terminate business relationships in case of rate misuse or breach of confidentiality.
