"Yes. Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit and foreign nationals a Protected Area Permit, both arranged in Leh. Permits are checked en route, and foreign nationals generally cannot travel solo in protected areas. Rules and fees change periodically - we arrange permits for all guests on our Ladakh packages."

"Roughly 220 km, taking four to five hours each way via the Chang La pass. The drive itself is a major part of the experience. Because of the distance and altitude, an overnight stay at the lake is far more rewarding than attempting a same-day return, which makes for a punishing 10+ hour round trip."

"Yes - camps and basic guesthouses operate at Spangmik and nearby villages, generally from around May to September. Facilities are simple: expect limited electricity, no mobile network for most operators, and cold nights year-round. Book ahead in peak season. Altitude is a genuine consideration - this is why acclimatising properly in Leh first is non-negotiable. Avoid alcohol, move slowly, and tell your driver or guide immediately if you develop a headache, nausea or breathlessness."
