Lunch at a Mughlai restaurant near Dal Gate. Afternoon drive to Hazratbal Dargah on the western shore of Dal Lake - the shrine houses a relic of the Prophet and sits right on the lake. Continue through Bijbehara's willow bat factories and arrive in Pahalgam (2,130 m) by late afternoon. Check in to your riverside resort. The Lidder River runs fast and clear even in December. Walk down to the water before dinner. This is a slow evening by design; the drive has been long.

A long but rewarding day. Leave Pahalgam after breakfast and drive to Srinagar, then continue north to Sonmarg (2,740 m) - the "Meadow of Gold." In winter, Sonmarg is quieter, colder, and often snow-covered. Zoji La (3,528 m) is closed November-May, so this is a viewpoint visit only - no onward drive to Ladakh. Walk the snow-covered meadow, watch the Sindh River, and if the weather is clear, take a short snowshoe trail. Sonmarg hotels close in winter, so this is a day visit, not an overnight. Return to Srinagar by late afternoon and check in for your final night.

Check out after breakfast and transfer to SXR. Winter fog can delay flights - SXR has a documented pattern of morning cancellations in December-January, so book afternoon departures where possible. If your flight is later, add a quick visit to the Government Arts Emporium near Lal Chowk for pashmina and saffron. Pack saffron, pashmina and any liquids in checked luggage.
